"You develop a team to achieve what one player cannot accomplish alone. All of us alone are weaker, by far, than if all of us are together." -- Duke University coach, Mike Krzyzewski

Coach Danny Turner has high expectations for this year's squad. "The other schools aren't expecting us to do well, because we are a new school. So we are looking to surprise them, because we are the role of the underdog. I also have expectiations to gain respect -- not only in our conference, but in the North Region. The team will center around teamwork."

Coach Turner's 3 Keys to Success
  • A fundamental approach
  • A conceptual approach
  • A defensive approach "If we can key on these, the team should experience come success." -- Coach Turner

Q: So, what exactly has the team been up to?
A: What haven't they been up to!!!

    Let's Take a Look...
  • weight lifting
  • endurance training
  • distance running
  • aquadynamics
  • sprint workouts
  • the FIVE-STAR jumproping series
  • Coach Turner and his staff base their precise training methods on personal experience, as well as on adaptations made from other renown coaches. While time constraints definitely have a significant effect on preparation, the Mustangs are preparing for Mather by perfecting the basic fundamentals of the game. Although this aspect of basketball has lost its glimmer over recent years, Coach Turner continues to put high importance into mastery of the basics of the game.

"I believe the kids have developed a well-rounded work ethic, and to be successful in our league requires attributes such as these. It is all relative. Our coaching staff looks at our players as Student-Athletes, rather than as just athletes. Our players display their refined work ethic in the classroom, as well as on the court." --- Coach Danny Turner, 11-08-00
