"The Sword and the Chrysanthemum":

Explorations of Asian Literature, Art, Music, and Dance

Students explore how samurai swords, Japanese animation, and Korean folksongs are expressions of Asian cultural themes. Students express their own responses through music, art, dance, writing, or combinations of these. Other topics include "The Secret Lives of Inanimate Objects", "Japanese Flower-Arranging" and "What Constitutes Popular Music in Asia?" This colloquium is a preview to CelebrAsia!, the NCPHS Festival of Asian Art and Culture scheduled for Spring, 2000.
